Decapitron Issue 8 by Sumi Ink Club

February 28, 2008 2:39 am

Just as the first peach blossoms burst onto the spring scene today, an amazing package from Paris arrived:a stack of Sumi ink Club “Decapitron” books! “Decapitron” is an ongoing series published by shoboshobo, each issue contains the work of a different artist. This Issue, No. 8 “San Juan Decapistrano,” features the work of our very own Sumi Ink Club. Printed in small editions of 60 on an old verifax machine, the books smell vaguely like chocolate. C’est magnifique!

Sumi Ink Club Feb 19 2008

February 21, 2008 5:27 pm

A special, sleepy LA-fog meeting this Tuesday produced this orange apex for the “Sumi Obelisk” to be installed at siteLA in early March. As always, drawn by many hands. Sumi Ink Club is open to everyone: all ages, all humans, all styles. Come draw with us!

Our sign is working! Some new faces wandered in, and we enjoyed chance visits from a gallerist, a creative writing teacher, and a fortune teller named Yogi-man. Hello Los Angeles!!!!

SUMI INK CLUB Feb 12 2008

February 13, 2008 3:26 am

Another glorious sumi session took place this afternoon with new members Jasmine, Sarah, and Chris joining the mix. Gray washes and gradiants were incorporated into a lavender piece still in progress, a new style for Sumi Ink Club, known up to this point for bold crisp patterns and opaque lines. We completed an orange double panel full of tigers, snakes, pyramids, and heads–as always drawn by many hands.Sumi Ink CLub Feb 12 2008
