Holographic, Rainbow, and Mirrorized Sumis for the upcoming black+white show at 15twenty gallery in Hollywood. We’re thinking white light.

Sumi Ink Club met this week during Prof. Carole Frances Lungs’ experimental textile seminar at Cal State Los Angeles. The day’s focus was surface treatments + hand painting of fabrics. We had a blast! Thanks to everyone in the class for collaborating on such a beautiful colorful piece– a new direction for sumi ink club.

This weekend sumi ink club headed out to High Desert Test Sites for a swapmeet organized by Amy and Wendy Yao. So many great collaborations happening, in sumi ink and beyond. Check out these dogs + a new sumi smock designed in collaboration with smockshop and chose general.

ALL AGES ALL HUMANS ALL STYLES CELEBRATE

For this new exhibition Sumi Ink Club, the Los Angeles based drawing collective will create three-dimensional plywood constructions covered in their signature black sumi ink drawings.

In the spirit of Sumi Ink Club’s commitment to a collaborative process, the topsy-turvy, detailed, collaborative drawings that cover the constructions will be created at meetings held the weeks leading up to the event. Their motto, “all ages, all humans, all styles” is embodied in their distinctive style, which through a simple format, allows for almost universal participation. In each of its permutations Sumi Ink Club uses group drawings as a means to open and fortify social interactions. Collaborative drawing sessions will be held at siteLA throughout the duration of the exhibition.
